Lila Downs has to cancel

liladownsflowers.jpgSinger Lila Downs had an emergency appendectomy on Sunday and has to beg off her Thursday date to perform for free at Santa Monica Pier. Randall Roberts has the details at West Coast Sound. Last week's LA Weekly profile says Downs, born in Oaxaca to a Mixtec-Indian mother and an American college-professor father, "has sung in Spanish, English, Portuguese and French, as well as the native tongues of Mixtec, Nahautl, Mayan and Zapotec."
