ABC sheds L.A. correspondent Brian Rooney

Rooney's contract won't be renewed, part of a network staff trimming that includes Laura Marquez in San Francisco and that TV Newser says is expected to reach 300-400 by the end of the year. "Late yesterday I was told that my 22 year career at ABC News is over. I have not survived the reorganization," Rooney wrote Tuesday in an email to colleagues. He's the son of longtime CBS "60 Minutes" commentator Andy Rooney. Another Los Angeles correspondent, Mike Von Fremd, remains with ABC.
