Sunset curve the scene of bad accident

A head-on crash this afternoon involving a truck and more than one car blocked all lanes of Sunset Boulevard for awhile at Bellagio Road, adjacent to the north side of UCLA. At least one person was taken to the hospital and the traffic effects rippled all the way back to the 405 freeway, where the Sunset off-ramp was closed. For those who know their L.A. driving and music lore, the accident occurred on a treacherous part of Sunset sometimes called Dead Man's Curve, before and after Jan & Dean referred to it in a 1964 hit song of the same name. Jan, real name William Jan Berry, was seriously injured a couple of years later in a crash just off Sunset on Whittier Drive in Beverly Hills, a few miles east of Dead Man's Curve.
