Westside

Geez, people really want to go shopping

The freeway alert sign on the 10 West approaching Santa Monica is warning people this afternoon that parking in downtown Santa Monica is full. It's because of today's opening of the newly remodeled Santa Monica Place. Mark at LA Biz Observed covered it this morning: Mob scene at Santa Monica Place

It's happened before, by the way. When the Orbach's department store opened on Wilshire in 1948 in the building that now houses the Screen Actors Guild, so many shoppers crowded the Miracle Mile that radio stations warned people to stay way.
