Video of shooting casts doubt on U.S. marshal's story

In 2008, off-duty deputy U.S. marshal Matthew Itkowitz shot and killed a man in a Melrose Avenue alley and told the LAPD he had been attacked and his life threatened with his life. But video appears to show Itkowitz shooting the man in the back, and the investigation has found the marshal was drinking heavily, arguing with his wife, and may have shot the man to settle a grudge. Scott Glover's story for the L.A. Times looks into the case and why DA Steve Cooley's office concluded "there is insufficient evidence to prove that Itkowitz did not act in self-defense."
