Amy Winehouse, 27

The British soul singer with a drug and alcohol problem was found dead in her London apartment on Saturday afternoon local time. An autopsy is pending. There was no sign of foul play, police have been saying. She had pulled out of a comeback tour last month after appearing to be drunk and being jeered off stage in Serbia. She also was reported to have recently completed a rehab program. Her father, Mitch, cancelled a performing gig in New York to return to London. NYT, BBC, The Guardian

Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain also died at age 27.
