Spielberg, Katzenberg & Geffen pitch for Berman

bermandinnercrop.jpgRep. Howard Berman may face reelection in a new (if still Democratic) district, and a likely opponent from his own party in Rep. Brad Sherman. But his Hollywood friends are still with him. The DreamWorks team sent out solicitations today for maximum $5,000 campaign contributions, wrapped in invitations to a November 10 funder at the Beverly Hilton. Here's the email:

Dear Xxxxxxxxx,

We write to urge your support for Congressman Howard Berman, who faces an extremely difficult fight for reelection next year. As a result of redistricting, Howard has been pushed into a newly formed district and will therefore confront a strong challenge in the Democratic primary (this spring).

Howard has been a champion of the entertainment industry since he was first elected to Congress in 1983. As a lead member of the Judiciary Committee, he plays a key role in shaping the copyright, trademark and patent laws that are so vital to our industry. And as the top Democrat on the Foreign Affairs Committee, he has fought to strengthen aid to Israel, continue U.S. foreign assistance on global HIV/AIDS programs, and improve America's diplomatic standing in the world.

The Almanac of American Politics calls Howard "one of the most aggressive and creative members of the House and one of the most clear-sighted operators in American politics."

We call him our friend.

Continued after the jump, with instructions to get in touch with longtime SKG political adviser Andy Spahn.

Now more than ever, we need Howard Berman's steady hand and principled leadership in Congress.

We hope you will join us in supporting his campaign with the maximum allowable contribution of $5,000 per person. But whatever you are willing to contribute would be much appreciated. Attached is the contribution form for your convenience.

In addition, if you are interested in seeing Howard in person, he will be holding an event on November 10th at the Beverly Hilton, and your contribution today will cover your attendance for that event. You can find more details about the event in the attached invitation.

Please don't hesitate to reply to this email address (or call Andy Spahn at 818-xxx-xxxx) if you have any questions.

Thank you so much for your consideration.

Best regards,
Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen
