LACMA's rock finally has a route and a date

rock-photo-w-figs1.jpgAfter some delays, the 340-ton boulder destined to be part of the Levitated Mass exhibit is now scheduled to leave the Riverside area quarry for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on Oct. 25. But it's not like it will just be wheeled down Wilshire Boulevard. The trip will happen only at night and take the better part of two weeks, require special parking in eight different jurisdictions — Pomona, Rowland Heights, Chino Hills, La Mirada, Long Beach, Lakewood, West Carson and Los Angeles — and involve the moving of wires or other accommodations by 100 different utilities. “You can’t hurry art,” jokes LACMA spokeswoman Miranda Carroll, quoting another museum official.
