Gov. Brown signed a law that allows police to make warrantless searches of plants that make commercial copies of compact discs and movie DVDs. LAT

The Glendale News-Press announced it has found instances of plagiarism in approximately one-fifth of the columns written by Dan Kimber between Jan. 2, 2009 and Sept. 9, 2011. "Editing safeguards have been put in place to help prevent this from occurring in the future," says an editor's note. N-P
