  • Both Cerrell and Dakota Communications dropped out of the political contest to choose a PR firm for the City Council's redistricting commission, leaving the city with no top contenders for now. LAT
  • Mayor Villaraigosa's push to drop the 30-day impound of cars driven by illegal immigrants is getting pushback from the LAPD union. LAT

  • New York Times reporter Charles Duhigg, formerly of L.A., sold Random House an "untitled book on productivity, which draws on the latest discoveries in neuroscience, psychology and sociology to explore why some people, businesses, and societies are so much more productive than others."   • Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers (and Granada Hills High School) won the National League MVP award over the Dodgers' Matt Kemp.
