Oops, mayor did OK million-dollar payout to housing chief *

KCET reports that, contrary to earlier reports in the Times by Deputy Mayor Sarah Sheahan, Mayor Villaraigosa not only knew about the city Housing Authority board's $1.2 million deal with Rudoif Montiel to go away, he signed off on the settlement. "SoCal Connected" quotes Villaraigosa's deputy chief of staff Matt Szabo:

"The mayor was absolutely aware and authorized the settlement in this matter," Szabo told SoCal Connected. "Although he may not have been briefed on every detail of the settlement, he certainly authorized and encouraged the chairman of the board to move forward with the settlement so that the agency could end an unfortunate chapter and move forward."

"SoCal Connected" intends to land another segment in its ongoing coverage of the Housing authority on Friday night's show.

* Update: Mayor's administration can't keep story straight on Montiel deal
