Campaign 2013

Dueling releases on early money for 2013 mayor race

greuel-garcetti.jpgPeriodic campaign reports are due Tuesday for the candidates who are raising money to run for mayor of Los Angeles. So the day before, that's today, brings the press releases trying to grab a headline (or prevent a headline) for a factoid that matters little at this stage. Wendy Greuel's pitch landed at 1:31 p.m., claiming a total of $1.1 million raised by this report's December 31 deadline. Ten minutes later, the pitch from Eric Garcetti pointed out that he has raised over $1 million just in the past four months. Jan Perry weighed in later, talking up the $826,000 her campaign has raised.

The others have sat out the early press release gambit, apparently.

The LA Weekly's Gene Maddaus says that City Attorney Carmen Trutanich will report that's he over a million bucks for the District Attorney race, which he hasn't officially acknowledged that he's in. That puts him away ahead of the competition — so far.
