Philip Vannatter, the retired LAPD homicide detective who led the investigation of the 1994 murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, and who arrested Roman Polanski in 1977 for sex with a minor, died of cancer complications on Friday in Santa Clarita.
