Alex Cohen's week with Leonard Cohen

l+cohen+npr.jpgNPR did a nice story this afternoon during "All Things Considered" on the current popularity of the Canadian music legend Leonard Cohen, who at 77 has a new record out that looks like a hit. The national NPR host (sorry, I didn't catch which one) gushed her own admiration for Cohen during the piece. When the network threw back to KPCC, local host Alex Cohen did the same and added a fun revelation. On a silent Buddhist retreat in New Mexico some years ago, before she knew of his music, she was paired on kitchen duty with a lovely older man. Name of Leonard.

If I remember my Cohen lore correctly, he also famously retreated to a Buddhist center here on Mount Baldy, around the time he was deeply involved with actress Rebecca de Mornay.
