Political notes from the weekend

  • County Assessor John Noguez — there's a local elected official whose name you may not know — is the subject of a public integrity investigation by the DA's office. The issue is the relationship between Noguez and Ramin Salari, who runs a company called Assessment Appeals Services and is accused of pressuring clients to give campaign money to the assessor. LAT, LA Weekly, Los Cerritos Community News
  • Sheriff Lee Baca broke state law by appearing in uniform in an ad endorsing Carmen Trutanich for DA. But the sheriff is, you know, sorry.
  • Rep. Brad Sherman's camp vows he's not moving west into the 26th congressional district to avoid the mega-clash with Rep. Howard Berman. LAT
  • Revised City Council maps were released Friday with some key changes. The incredibly tangled 4th district no longer goes quite to Northridge, but it still takes in a big swath of the Valley and parts of Koreatown, with seemingly random twists in between. LAT, City Maven, DN
  • More than a year before the primary election for mayor in 2013, AIA is holding candidate forums and a few online media outlets are covering them. Last week: Jan Perry. Blogdowntown, City Watch
  • In a change of roles, the city of Los Los Angeles is suing the state and the Owens Valley air district over the dust that blows off Owens Dry Lake. The city alleges that the Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District is changing the rules to require more spending by Los Angeles to clean up the mess we made up there. KPCC, Courthouse News, Aquafornia
  • The intersection of Van Nuys and Glenoaks boulevards was named for Pacoima activist Marie Harris. DN
