The grand opening to unveil the new Expo Line light rail train is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the 7th Street/Metro station in downtown. That kicks off a weekend of street fairs, celebrations and free rides for passengers. 7th Street wil be closed between Figueroa and Hope streets on Saturday. Exposition Boulevard will be shut between Figueroa and Vermont for much of Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Metro's blog The Source has nice features on photos from the train line that became Expo through history, and on a man who has been advocating for the train line for 22 years.
