Kings win in OT - again - now lead 2-0

Replay of winning goal

Jeff Carter, the Kings' big late-season acquisition from the east, scored in overtime tonight to give the Kings a 2-1 win over the New Jersey Devils. This is huge in multiple ways.

The Kings won despite not playing very well. Several of their stars were non-factors all night. The Devils were allowed to swarm and grab loose pucks throughout the game, but goaltender Jonathan Quick kept the Kings in the game. Box score

The Kings have now won the first two games — on the road — in every series of this year's playoffs. They have not lost a road game yet. They also have now claimed a second victory in a Stanley Cup Final for the first time in their history.

Which means they come back to Staples Center to play on Monday up 2-0, for the first time in a finals game.

They now have 14 of the 16 wins it takes to be allowed to touch the Stanley Cup. They have won 13 once before in their history. Never before 14. They could party with the Stanley Cup at home in Staples Center on Wednesday night. Both LA games this week start about 5:15 p.m.

Game 5, if needed, would be next Saturday in New Jersey. Game 6 would be back here on Monday, June 11. If there's a Game 7, it would be Wednesday, June 13 in Newark.
