Driver dies after hitting horse at 2 a.m. *

City News Service is reporting that a 69-year-old driver was killed early this morning when his car hit a horse at Palos Verdes Drive North and Crenshaw Boulevard in Rolling Hills Estates. The driver survived the crash but died at the hospital. Animal control officers were called to the scene, but the fate of the horse was not immediately clear, the CHP said.

* Daily Breeze update: The horse had gotten loose from a nearby stable and was in traffic lanes. The animal was euthanized at the scene, the Breeze reports.
