The Drug Enforcement Administration has refused for more than two years to allow its agents to cooperate with an LAPD investigation into the death of a drug suspect shortly after he was arrested in a DEA operation. LAT

City Attorney Carmen Trutanich announced he and other law enforcement officials will send letters to all Los Angeles gun buyers reminding them of city laws regarding safe storage of weapons and reporting if a gun is lost or stolen. DN

An audit released Thursday found that Los Angeles County sheriff's managers improperly used department aircraft, including a helicopter ride for a commander's daughter on her way to a retirement party. LAT

Cindy Beck, the wife of Chief Charlie Beck, has obtained a restraining order against a homeless woman who allegedly threatened to kill her. CBS LA

The City Council has apparently banned the food trucks that compete for space to park along Wilshire Boulevard in the media gulch near LACMA. LA Weekly

Protesters in the Occupy Los Angeles movement filed a class-action lawsuit Thursday against the city and high-ranking officials alleging that the group's constitutional rights were violated during the group's eviction from the City Hall park in November 2011. LAT, City News Service

A group of Granada Hills neighbors has filed a lawsuit against Sunshine Canyon Landfill, accusing the operator of allowing noxious trash odors to stink up the community. DN, Curbed LA

ABC White House correspondent Jake Tapper has jumped to CNN to be chief Washington correspondent an anchor of a new weekday program. CNN

The Atlantic Wire nominates the 50 worst columns of 2012, including a James Franco piece on "Girls" for the Huffington Post. Atlantic Wire

Thomas Goetz announced he will step down as executive editor of Wired to begin doing things that "turn ideas into action.” NY Observer

Star magazine reported that Mayor Villaraigosa is dating Eva Longoria, but her people quickly denied it.
