I was down sick on Tuesday, and it's looking like I'l be there again today. For now here's some of what I've been missing.

The DA's office "pledged to review' the newly released files linking Cardinal Roger Mahony and a top aide to the protection of priests accused of sexual abuse, but legal experts said the new documents were unlikely to lead to charges or convictions. LAT, DN

Kim Masters on why the media is no longer afraid of the Church of Scientology. Hollywood Reporter

Accused LA County Assessor Noguez could be released from jail next week due to a change in California's bail rules affecting cases of financial fraud. DN

The City Council on Tuesday put two medical marijuana measures on the May 21 ballot, and may add a third. DN

Mayoral candidate Jan Perry courts the pet vote in odd video. LA Weekly

Perry now says she didn't mean to say that newly hired city employees should be moved away from guaranteed-benefit retirement plans. LAT

Candidate Kevin James enjoys his name being confused with the actor Kevin James, who has a new movie coming out soon. LAT

mark-miller-thr.jpgThe Hollywood Reporter named former Newsweek director of editorial operations Mark Miller as deputy editorial director, reporting to Janice Min. Miller was formerly LA bureau chief and West Coast editor of Newsweek. News director Matthew Belloni was also promoted to executive editor. THR

The Dodgers announced that Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax will spend time around the time this season as a special adviser. He was somewhat estranged from the team with limited involvement during the Fox and McCourt ownership eras.

LA Weekly managing editor Jill Stewart was elected president of the Los Angeles Press Club for 2013. NBC 4 reporter-anchor Robert Kovacik was chosen VP. Three-term president Will Lewis was named president emeritus.

Former LA Weekly reporter Simone Wilson is now living in Tel Aviv and freelancing for the Jewish Journal and other outlets. Fishbowl LA
