Driver makes sudden U-turn, hits motorcycle cop

That extra traffic in Laurel Canyon this evening was due to an accident involving an LAPD motorcycle officer. The unidentified officer was on his way to investigate a previous accident when a driver stuck in traffic made an abrupt turn in front of the officer's bike. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. The officer sustained minor to moderate injuries, "but we're pretty sure he's going to be OK,'' LAPD Lt. Andy Neiman told City News Service. Two drivers in the original crash also went to the hospital, and Laurel Canyon was closed from Mulholland Drive down to Ventura Boulevard for a time during the evening commute.

An LAPD officer also suffered minor injuries during a house fire in Palms tonight.
