Woman wins LA Marathon in her first marathon

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa congratulates the winners of the Los Angeles Marathon on Sunday. But wait — is that....? Yes it's Frank McCourt, the former Dodgers owner who retained his participation in the marathon. You'll remember that when McCourt ran the Dodgers, Villaraigosa was a fixture beside the owner in the field box next to the Dodgers' on-deck circle.

Belarus runner Aleksandra Duliba ran the course of Sunday's Los Angeles Marathon in 2:26:08, more than four minutes ahead of the next closest woman. It was Duliba's first marathon — and she reportedly said previously that she wanted to debut here because her favorite television show is "Californication." The fastest runner overall was Erick Mose, who is Mexican-born but holds Kenyan citizenship, who finished in 2 hours 9 minutes 44 seconds. Kenyans took the other two podium spots as well. The LA Marathon gives elite women a head start of 18:35, and since Duliba finished 2:09 ahead of Mose she won the race's $50,000 gender challenge bonus.
