Gov. Jerry Brown has five open seats on the UC Board of Regents and is in no hurry to fill them. LAT

Mayor Eric Garcetti held his second open house on Tuesday in Van Nuys, hearing from constituents on a variety of issues — from a senior musical program to ways to increase horse riding trails. DN

Democrats plan to target the San Bernardino County congressional seat won by Rep. Gary Miller, whose district leans Democratic. LAT

Despite the Democrats' sizable statewide registration advantage, Republicans hold close to half the 2,500 mayoral and city council seats in California, according to figures compiled by GrassrootsLab, a Sacramento research and political data firm. LAT

Courts and cops

Sergio Garcia, the undocumented lawyer whose case to be allowed entry to the State Bar will be heard today by the state Supreme Court, was on "Which Way, LA?" with Emily Green of the Daily Journal and columnist George Skelton of the Los Angeles Times. KCRW

A federal appeals court ruled Tuesday that the government acted correctly when it ordered Drakes Bay Oyster Co. in Marin County to close to clear the way for the first marine wilderness on the West Coast. LAT
