Boston, not LA, chosen to bid for 2024 Olympics

The U.S. Olympic Committee today chose Boston as the nation's candidate for the 2024 Summer Games, opting not to push Los Angeles to get the Olympics for the third time. Sports agent and entrepreneur Casey Wasserman had been advocating for Los Angeles along with Mayor Eric Garcetti. The U.S. committee also had proposals from San Francisco and Washington. Boston now must compete internationally to get the games, likely against Rome, Paris, an expected bid from South Africa and possibly Berlin or Hamburg.

Los Angeles hosted the Summer Games in 1932 and again in 1984, with both Olympics based at the Colieum in Exposition Park. The 1932 games are why we have an Olympic Boulevard (formerly 10th Street.)
