Gas leak stopped above Porter Ranch, at least for now

Southern California Gas said today it has stopped the escape of methane from that leaking well at the Aliso Canyon gas storage field. A relief well has allowed the utility to cap the well and stop the uncontrolled release of odorized natural gas, but SoCal Gas describes the stoppage as temporary pending a final seal over the well. The gas has been leaking since Oct. 23 and caused thousands of people to opt to leave their homes in the adjoining Porter Ranch neighborhood of Los Angeles.
