Longtime Hollywood publicist Lee Solters says of working with Michael Jackson, "Don't write this, but I finally quit because he wanted me to lie too often." It's from an interesting interview of Solters and another legend of Hollywood promotion, Warren Cowan, by Alex Ben Block in Television Week. Solters' more troublesome clients included Sinatra and Streisand, but Jackson needed special handling. Solters, for example, had to deny the Jacko-Lisa Marie Presley wedding for six weeks until the National Enquirer broke the news. "When the press called and asked me why did you lie, I said, 'That's showbiz.'"
