What's wrong with the literature of L.A.?

Kirsch makes an interesting point about how much of the more popular writing on Los Angeles is from outsiders who glom their own issues onto the city. But then he has the gaul to say that the problem lies in a lack of writing from Los Angeles-based writers. It's not our fault that the mainstream literary establishment only pays attention to East Coast writers.
