Santa Monica carnage

Channels 2, 4, 7 and 9 (but not KTLA 5 or Fox 11, which are staying with regular programming) are all live from the Santa Monica farmer's market. The L.A. Times website is filing updates. The AP feeds are available from various online sources, but on TV you get the highlights plus pictures.

The story: An elderly man drove his car through the crowded open-air market this afternoon, killing at least eight people and injuring at least 40.

4:21: Channel 4 has neighbors identifying the driver and saying he is a religious, older man with no known driving troubles. He lives in Santa Monica.
