The architecture of L.A.'s schools

Demand for new schools is consuming land and historic locales all over Los Angeles. On Wilshire alone, the old Otis Art Institute is already a construction site -- though the circa-1900 palm tree that was in front of General Harrison Gray Otis' mansion somehow remains -- and the Ambassador Hotel may soon be demolished. Today on KCRW's show DnA: Design and Architecture (2:30 to 3 p.m, 89.9 FM and the Web) host Frances Anderton will talk to the LAUSD honcho in charge of building schools and an architect of three visually interesting campuses.
