'Bullets Over Bohemia'

Christine Pelisek reports in the LA Weekly on the deadly gang battle going on over claims to Silver Lake.

In the streets abutting Vendome and Marathon, a spate of gang violence that started on Labor Day weekend has been responsible for several drive-bys, a car bombing, two deaths, and the rattled nerves of longtime residents and more recent arrivals who hoped the checkered neighborhood had made the transition from barrio to bourgeois.

Also in today's Weekly, Bill Bradley reports from inside the Schwarzenegger victory suite upstairs at the Century Plaza, where Jay Leno and other Friends of Arnold hung out with the new Guv. Bradley says that Arnold plans to "create a modern Republican Party even as he governs from the center." Marc Cooper has a bitter send-off to Gray Davis, and Harold Meyerson blames both the Democrats and the talk show hosts.
