The anti-Disneys

Disney has been trying to sell the Anaheim Mighty Ducks for four years, and as the L.A. Times reported yesterday, the most interest is coming from the Maloof brothers -- Joe, Gavin, George and Phil. They own the Sacramento Kings of the NBA and the Palms Casino in Las Vegas. The New York Times tagged along on a recent boy's night out in Manhattan.

If FHM or Maxim could invent their dream bachelor, he would no doubt be something like the Maloof brothers...They don't have weird hairpieces or paunches, they're friends with Tara Reid and they prefer grunge lite, like Puddle of Mudd and Nickleback.

So when the Maloof brothers — except Phil, who stayed home — rolled up to Tao, a restaurant in Midtown Manhattan, in three limousines carrying an entourage of 18 on a recent Thursday night, a chef ran out, greeted them with fist knocks and whisked them through a private side entrance.

The Maloofs, who all have homes in Sacramento and Las Vegas, had flown in to promote the Kings and to keep up appearances. At 8:30, they sat down at a large table, with a crew that included the New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey, 23; two childhood friends; several assistants; and Gavin's date, Jennifer Louie, decked out in a cleavage-baring top and a mini-kilt. The cellphones were already ringing.

So long as they change the Ducks name to something more hockey-ish, they'll do.
