Sue SmethurstSue Smethurst was the Australian journalist detained at LAX last month when she arrived to interview Olivia Newton-John. After being strip-searched and held for 15 hours, she was sent home. Australians and citizens of 26 other friendly countries can enter the U.S. without a visa to do business, unless that biz is journalism. Reporters need a special visa under recent anti-terrorism rules. Matt Welch examines how foolish the Smethurst affair was in a piece in Canada's National Post.
