LogoThe Los Angeles chapter of the Society for Professional Journalists is throwing its annual banquet Thursday at the Hyatt Regency downtown. Linda Deutsch, the venerable special correspondent in Los Angeles for Associated Press, gives the keynote speech. The chapter has presented "Journalist of the Year" awards since 1976. This year's recipients are Jeff Wald, news director at KTLA-TV; George Nicholaw, retired vice president and general manager of KNX Newsradio; Lori Streifler, city editor, City News Service; and Steve Lopez, columnist, Los Angeles Times. A Freedom of Information Award is being given to UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh.
