Blogger Brooke Schreier Ganz, better known online as Asparagirl, recently moved to Los Angeles to be with her new (as of November) husband, Scott Ganz. They blog together at The Protocols of the Yuppies of Zion. In a post last week, she gave her early impressions of L.A. seen through the eyes of a transplanted 24-year-old New Yorker.

Among them (link via ProfessorBainbridge.com):

LA people are nicer. No, really, people here are very friendly, and not in the dumb-blonde-chick way I'd feared...

LA is nice to its pedestrians. Granted, there aren't that many of them here; even chilly Philly streets were better populated at night than this place. But LA pedestrians get right-of-way in any and all situations and God help you if you don't stop cold in the middle of a busy road on the offchance that someone might amble by on that faded crosswalk painted on the pavement.

LA has In-N-Out Burgers. And thanks to the Atkins craze, I can order my double-double protein style (i.e. a double cheeseburger with lettuce instead of bread) and no one will think it's weird, thus forcing me to reveal that I can't eat wheat.

LA has driving. Lots and lots of driving. Soooo much driving...

Nice early take. I predict she posts again -- thrilled -- when the jacarandas burst into purpleness.

Asparagirl, by the way, adds her name to the list of Republicans who say they can't vote for Bush if he pushes the constitutional amendment against gay marriage and civil unions. Doesn't mean she'll vote for Kerry...
