The Mexican writer and man of letters is the subject of a piece in today's L.A. Times by Reed Johnson, and he also will speak tonight at the Central Library as part of the Zócalo "Public Square" lecture series.

Also: The L.A. Press Club is throwing a book party tonight in Beverly Hills for All the President's Spin....On November 13, the L.A. chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists is holding a five-hour tour of historical Los Angeles crime sites, including a stop inside the Ambassador Hotel.
