LAX officer killed on duty **

* Recast with new details

Channel 4 says at 5 p.m. that the airport police officer died after a suspect got control of his squad car and crashed into a fire hydrant. The officer had apparently been dragged along, but LAX Police Chief Bernard Wilson says "the details are still very unclear." The incident began when the officer approached a pedestrian near Sepulveda and Lincoln. After the crash, the suspect carjacked a Ford Explorer and crashed it through an airport fence. He's in custody. The officer's name has not been released, but authorities say he is the first LAX officer ever killed in the line of duty.
