The Lowe-down

Derek and CarolynWhatever may or may not be going on between Dodgers pitcher Derek Lowe and Fox Sports West Dodgers reporter-anchor Carolyn Hughes is breaking out as a media story. It began Friday with RonFineman.com. Then Lowe's unhappily estranged wife Trinka told all to radio talker Tom Leykis Monday, and Tuesday she was live on KMPC sports talk with Dave Smith. The Sports by Brooks website covers that appearance in detail, including Trinka saying she thinks her husband and Hughes are living together. In Wednesday's Times (link temporarily down), Larry Stewart quotes FSN saying that Hughes has been off the air for two weeks while the network conducts an investigation. A curious thing: Stewart says the Times was officially told of the investigation on July 25, but only reports it today. In the story, Hughes' husband Tommy Saboni, manager of the Palm in West Hollywood, reveals that he and his wife separated in March and are divorcing.
