New salon in town

Rand headquartersRAND, the Santa Monica think tank, debuted a new Foreign Policy Roundtable series targeting leaders of the entertainment and media communities. Friday night's gathering at the Bel-Air home of Kenneth and Ellen Ziffren featured Jacob Weisberg, the editor of Slate, interviewing Fareed Zakaria of CNN International and the PBS series "Foreign Exchange" (plus a few sit-downs with Jon Stewart on "The Daily Show.") I'd call the guest list not too shabby if the idea is to attract a Hollywood constituency for global issues: Barbra Streisand; Jim Wiatt, chairman of William Morris; Jim Ramo, CEO of Movielink; Harry Sloan, CEO of MGM; Michael Lynton, chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment; Rich Frank, chairman of The Firm; and directors Wes Craven and Taylor Hackford, among others.
