KNBC plans to get raw *

Poking around the KNBC website I came across a story and videos about the coming launch of News Raw, "a new concept in news programming" that will let viewers watch how the station's news is gathered and produced. "Unpackaged, unprocessed, unedited—news in its purest form" is how the station describes the reports, which will be fed by cameras in news meetings, around the assignment desk and with the reporters and producers. When News Raw starts up—"over the next couple of weeks," the site says—the reports will air on new digital channel 4.4 and stream live on the KNBC website. Mekahlo Medina has been named the anchor. Sample video, an introduction to News Raw, and a promo video.

More Burbank: KNBC's multi-part investigative report last year on a possible threat from methane gas under the Playa Vista development was the only local entry[nope: see below] to pick up honors at broadcasting's Peabody Awards today. Here's the station's link to part one, with a response from Playa Vista, and part two.

* Correction: KCET also won a Peabody for the public service project "A Place of Our Own," and KMEX won for "15% of the United States," a 19-part series on the Latino community.
