• Mayor Villaraigosa announced today that his initiative to deploy traffic officers during the rush hour will soon cover 51 intersections. Just for the record, every one is listed after the jump.
  • Brady Westwater, president of the Downtown Neighborhood Council, finds massive fault with a Times opinion piece on gentrification of Skid Row. He calls it the "single most moronic article in the history of the Times."
  • Nick Harder, the Orange County Register's home improvement columnist, died at age 61. He had diabetes and underwent triple-bypass surgery last year. Nice observation from the paper's story: he would sometimes meet readers at Home Depot or Lowe's to help with advice.
  • Looks who's involved in the Board of Supes decision to put $4 million into a county television station: former City Hall cable maven Susan Herman.
  • Greg Maddux starts at home for the first time as the Dodgers go for their 11th straight win.

Following are all the intersections with traffic officers assigned. By the way, the mayor says to not get all jumpy if you see the officers standing on the sidewalk or sitting idly in their official Ford Escorts. They are only supposed to risk their lives out in the middle of the street when traffic starts to snarl.

As newspapers and television pull back from investigative reporting, foundations and other organizations are beginning to fill the void. One of the most interesting is Accountable California, a project of Local 721 of the Service Employees International Union.
