Gibson cops a plea

TMZ reports that Mel Gibson's lawyer dropped in on Malibu's courthouse today and revealed a deal with prosecutors. He pleads no contest to misdemeanor drunk driving, but counts of driving under the influence and carrying an open container were dropped. Jail? Hahahahaha. Of course not. He gets three years probation, pays $1,200 in fines and penalties and loses his license for ninety days. Also:

Gibson was ordered to attend one year of AA meetings. For the first four-and-a-half months he must attend five times a week. For the remainder of the time, he must attend three times a week....

Gibson volunteered to do a public service announcement on the hazards of driving under the influence. He also volunteered to enter a rehab program immediately.
