Behold the palm tree

creditUSA Today jumps on the palm tree story, pointing out that demand in Las Vegas and Arizona has pushed prices to $20,000 for some Canary Island palms while noting that here in L.A. we'll be seeing fewer of the environmentally bogus icons. Age and disease are taking a toll, plus the city's million-tree campaign hopes to replace some palms with oaks and other shade-giving trees. "We're looking to drive environmental change," says program director Paula Daniels.
