Melinda Henneberger, a Newsweek contributing editor who used to be at the New York Times, joins the Huffington Post as political editor and will hire reporters to cover Congress and the 2008 presidential race "with attitude." Investigative and multimedia reporters will follow, Arianna Huffington tells the New York Times. "Now is the time to generate our own original content. It was always our intention, once we had the money, to hire people to do reporting." She has staff in New York and L.A. running the site, which draws about 2.3 million unique visitors a month, the NYT story says. Softbank Capital, a venture capital group, recently invested $5 million. (via Romenesko)
