Friday desk-clearing
- Daily Trojan saga comes to a head: Jeremy Beecher, an ally of editor-in-exile Zach Fox, was elected editor for the spring, apparently with the understanding that he will run things day-to-day while Fox works on reforms at the paper. Irish Trojan's Blog
- The Huffington Post's Eat the Press sub-site adds two more editors, one of them Nick Douglas, recently excused from further servitude to the Gawker empire of blogs.
- Dean Singleton's m.o. in the Bay Area: staffers at the San Jose Mercury have been told to stay home Dec. 5 between 8 am and 10 am to wait for a phone call that will tell them they either have a job or they don't. Next week the Daily Breeze finds out if he's the new owner.
- In answer to the question about whether any SoCal paper still has a full-time staff editorial cartoonist, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin raises its hand and says yes: Gordon Campbell. (And Patrick O'Connor at the Daily News, too.)
- L.A. Times media relations spokesman David Garcia's last day was today.
- Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez talks about speculation that he is interested in the mayor's job, and Rep. Jane Harman addresses her strained relations with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, on NBC 4's "News Conference" Sunday at 9 am.
- Jesse Katz talks about the Los Angeles Magazine list of L.A. Influentials, and host John Rabe goes ice skating in Pershing Square, on KPCC's "Off-Ramp" Saturday at noon.
