From Lennon to Brennan

Items of L.A. note from today's Slate.com:

→ The John Lennon FBI files that Jon Wiener (of UC Irvine, The Nation and KPFK) finally wrested out of government hands last month are given an airing in Slate's Hot Document feature.

→ Jim Newton (of the L.A. Times) this afternoon began a three-part entry dubbed The Brennan Memos, analyzing Supreme Court Justice William Brennan's case memos. Is the Times' City Hall chief developing a legal specialty now that his book on Earl Warren is doing so well? He talks about the book and the Californiazation of America tonight at a Zócalo lecture at the Central Library.

Mickey Kaus has a thought about the Times' takeouts on the Gates Foundation and the traffic engineers who allegedly helped EAA's strike by shutting down four Los Angeles intersections.

Are Skinny Girls Unhealthy? is today's Explainer at Slate.
