Angeleno Announces Degen Pener as New Editor-in-Chief of Los Angeles Luxury Lifestyle Publication

Modern Luxury Magazines announced today that Degen Pener— former features director of Santa Barbara Magazine and entertainment editor for Details— has been appointed editor-in-chief of Angeleno, Los Angeles’ premier luxury lifestyle magazine reaching more than 300,000 readers per month. He replaces Alexandria Abramian-Mott, who will remain with the company as the national home design editor.

For the last year, Pener has been a contributing editor at InStyle Magazine and Santa Barbara Magazine, as well as a writer covering personalities and home design for such publications as Veranda, C Magazine, Interior Design, Cosmopolitan, Seventeen, The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly and Glamour. He began his career at New York Magazine, where he was an associate editor of the “Intelligencer” gossip column. At age 25, Pener was tapped by The New York Times to write a column, “Egos & Ids,” for the newly created “Styles of the Times” section. During his career, Pener has been editor-at-large for Elle Magazine and a staff writer covering fashion, music and movies for Entertainment Weekly. Among the personalities he has recently profiled are Oprah Winfrey, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson, Liv Tyler, Brittany Murphy and interior designer Michael Smith. He is also the author of The Swing Book, a guide to the swing music revival. Pener has a B.A. in History, summa cum laude, from Washington University in St. Louis.

“I’m excited at the opportunity of working on this premier magazine, the indispensable guide for Angelenos who want to enjoy their city to the fullest,” said Pener. “Los Angeles is one of the most dynamic and creative places in the world, and I’m thrilled to lead Angeleno in covering the best that LA has to offer.”
