Nice game

The Dodgers on Sunday finally got the game they have been waiting for from young pitcher Chad Billingsley. He gave up no runs and three hits to the first-place Padres over seven innings, and most notably walked nobody while striking out nine. When a previously wild 22-year-old comes up with that kind of performance against your top rival, you have to think a corner has been turned in the kid's development. Tonight, meanwhile, the Dodgers kept going, beating Atlanta 8-2 with another home run from young outfielder Matt Kemp.

At SoCal Sports Observed: David Davis rounds up the best works timed to the 50th anniversary of the Dodgers in Los Angeles, including a new trove of documents at WalterOMalley.com. Davis also interviews Dennis D'Agostino, co-author of Through a Blue Lens, a coffee table book of photos from the Brooklyn days.
