Pedophile leaves town

creditJack McClellan, the self-proclaimed pedophile who has become notorious for hanging around local young girls and posting pictures on his website, flew to Chicago yesterday. Before he left, he was served with a court order barring him from following, stalking, hitting, photographing or loitering within 30 feet of any minor or posting their pictures on the Web. Parents felt better about the order, but legal experts from Duke's Erwin Chemerinsky to UCLA's Eugene Volokh said it doesn't stand a chance of being legal. McClellan is not known to have actually molested any children, but calls himself a pedophile and kept a website (now down) of pictures he took of girls in public places in Washington state. He's been spotted taking photos in several places here, and the Santa Monica police posted his picture and a warning to parents. He has been readily interviewed in the media, and apparently never been arrested, and there's some thought that he's more about attention than little girls. McClellan is unemployed, receives SSI for mental disability, and lived here in his car. LAT, DN, CBS 2, NBC 4, ABC 7
