Steal this bike

Sincere condolences on Maxwell Schneller's loss -- the LAist contributor's bicycle was stolen, all of it except for the tire that was locked to a pole, as the photo will show you. We'd stop at being sorry for a right-living guy without a bicycle if he hadn't tried to cheer up his readers by pointing out that in the Netherlands everyone, apparently, steals bikes -- 5,000 a day. When yours vanishes, you take someone else's. Sounds lovely, until you start to imagine the ever-innovative Angelenos doing that very same with cars. Imagine the noise. Or should we outlaw car alarms? (I say we do.)
