AP's news of Britney

John Rabe of KPCC's "Off-Ramp," inspired by Frank Baker's memo to the Los Angeles bureau, ponders how the AP might incorporate more Britney news on the wire. Guess which dispatch is real:

SACRAMENTO (AP) _ The California State Patrol will be out in extra force this holiday weekend. At a news conference at CHP headquarters in Sacramento, CHP Spokesman Rick Quintero said, "Just because it's a holiday doesn't mean we won't be enforcing the law, especially regarding drunk or drugged driving." This warning is presumed to go double for Britney Spears.

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ LA County Supervisor Mike Antonovich today renewed his call for women to stop abandoning their babies. Through his spokesman, Tony Bell, Antonovich said there are many resources available for pregnant women in trouble. Britney Spears' agent would not comment on whether it would have been better in the long run for her to have given her two young sons to firefighters.

SACRAMENTO (AP) _ Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger plans to propose a constitutional amendment in his State of the State address today that will give him more power to cut the state budget. Schwarzenegger says in released excerpts of his prepared speech -- quote -- ``We cannot continue to put people through the binge and purge of our budget process,'' an apparent reference to Britney Spears.

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Britney Spears' car was impounded after police found it abandoned on the street. Police said Spears was driving Monday night when she had a flat tire on Sunset Boulevard sometime before 8 p.m. ``She left it unattended and it was blocking traffic, so it was towed,'' Officer Karen Smith, a police spokeswoman, said Tuesday of Spears' car.

The last one, of course, is authentic. Rabe's got an interview with KNBC 4's Joel Grover — the L.A. consumer's best friend — on Saturday's show, dips into a hot cauldron at the Seven Seas restaurant and catches a little Graciela Iturbide feev-ah. Noon at FM 89.3.

Tinkered a bit...
